Range Rover Monteverdi

A very Rare opportunity to own a piece of history!

This Range Rover was manufactured in Solihull, England as a 2 door, left hand driver Range Rover in 24th December 1981 before being Exported to Italy to be re-manufactured into a 4 door by a company owned by Peter Monteverdi. This was done before Land Rover started manufacturing 4 door Range Rovers. There are very few of these Range Rovers still in existence and about 10 years ago there were only around 38 known of and today there are probably only around 10 left in existence. The Range Rover returned to England on 12th May 1983 by Land Rover UK who converted it to a Right hand Drive car and re-registered it with a new chassis number to denote the change on 1st August 1983.

The Range Rover Monteverdi was launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1980 after a company (Monteverdi) engineered the design/conversion in response to public demand. Land Rover gave its approval to this design of the marque's individualistic styling and high quality elements synonymous with the reputation of Peter Monteverdi. The body work conversion accommodated two additional rear doors based on the standard 100" wheelbase in order that it would not risk the aesthetic lines of the vehicle. The interior was trimmed to a particularly high standard including air conditioning, which at the time was only available on top range vehicles as an optional extra. The high standard of finish was very much in keeping with what would be expected from an association between Range Rover and Monteverdi. These Vehicles were not available in the UK until the October of 1980. The full history of why Land Rover had it is unknown.

This Range Rover has been owned by my Farther for the past 20 years on a farm in the Yorkshire Dales. It has been regularly serviced and has always received anything needed to maintain a reliable and usable everyday motor. The Range Rover has more recently received a 5 speed LT77 Gearbox (due to wear in the old 4 speed unit) and 3.9 EFI engine which are both in excellent condition. The original 3.5ltr engine will be included in the sale however the old gearbox is no longer available. The MOT has run out on the RR and has since been dry stored in a barn.
This Range Rover could be put back on the road with some minor welding work however due to its history would be a perfect project in order to restore a unique piece of History. The old air conditioning unit was decommissioned and removed with the engine change but most of the components in order to put it back on will be provided with the sale.
The interior has been sprayed with a grey leather dye and the seats changed for more recent 4 door units. Again the old original seats can be provided with the sale.

The Range Rover can be driven and regularly gets started up and taken out around the fields.
If you have any questions about the Range Rover please e-mail me (use the guest book) or contact (Howard) on 01423 711558
