Military 90

British SAS 90 - In Desert Colours

Designed for long distance and night raids, hence all the jerry cans (Some for diesel and some for drinking water). This vehicle is fitted with front and rear mounted machine guns, a winch and radio equipment. This vehicle has now been superseded by the 'Wolf Land Rover’, which is believed to be the best military Land Rover ever built!

Bomb proof 90

Bomb proof SIII

This vehicle was designed for use in Northern Ireland, (most likely Belfast) during the 1980’s. It has been designed to withstand machine gun fire and mortar attacks! It has a special composite protective skin around the bodywork as well as steel armour and bulletproof glass. The engine size is unknown on this vehicle but later series 3’s did have the Rover V8 engine fitted and this was known to have made it very hot inside, especially so on hot days in the summer months. It was not a very popular vehicle with soldiers due to no front air vents and no air conditioning!

Converted by Carmichael, these aircraft crash tender vehicles were designed to be able to get straight to the scene of an incident, often across boggy fields or moor land etc. The large Nudge bar/Bulbar was designed to knock down fences or bushes 'on-route' to the crash site. The vehicles were originally a 1985 spec 4 door Range Rover fitted with the Standard 3.5ltr V8 engine and five-speed manual gearbox. The additional axel was coupled to the existing axel to make it 6-wheel drive.

These Land Rovers were used by the Army for clearing minefields. They have 1-inch thick steel armour plating under the middle of the vehicle to reflect the blast from any exploding mines. Note the round shaped roll bar, - This was specifically designed so if the vehicle is blow over it will roll back onto its wheels! It also has armour plating at the rear of the front seats. The passenger gets to play with the machine gun.

Military 101

Land Rover 101 - Forward Control

These vehicles were designed by Land Rover and Fighting Vehicle Research Centre (Army) as a Gun Tow Tractor for the Royal Artillery. (It was designed to carry up to six personnel). They were then built by Land Rover at the Solihull factory in the 1970's/1980's. It had fitted the Rover 3.5ltr V8 engine and had the same four speed manual gearbox as the civilian Range Rover being produced at this time. Most of these vehicles were fitted with a winch that was driven off the power take off (PTO) at the rear of the gearbox. The winch was designed to feed out of the front or rear of the chassis. The Forward Control 101 was also built as a radio communications vehicle and as an Ambulance. It was very popular with the Para’s.
